Hi there! Remember me? I blog here…when my internet works and I’m not being lame. Currently, my internet is still not working, but I am being so incredibly NOT lame that I drove over to my mother’s house to use her internet so I could fill you guys in on all that stuff you’ve missed! At least, I think that’s not lame but it’s probably debatable.
I had a fabulous weekend. A well-deserved fabulous weekend, if I do say so myself. I’m working hard to get up off my butt over here but that’s proving more difficult than anticipated in some cases. This weekend, however, was not to be ruined, as it was JOHN MAYER WEEKEND!
I’m not sure why that required caps, it just seemed appropriate.
Anyway. I worked a half-day Friday (and I do mean worked, I didn’t even open my browser I had so much work to do) before setting off in my little blue Mazda for Galveston. Old School Bestie and I had purchased tickets to John Mayer back in December for his concert in Houston on Saturday. March sure seemed a long way away at the time, but it snuck up fast.
This was our third time to see him, our second time together. After the last time, we sort made an “every time he’s in town we should go see him together!” pact. We got really great seats this time (she paid with school loans and mine was my Hanukkah gift from the ‘rents) and were beyond pumped to see him again.
I should take a moment to point out that I am aware that he is a giant douche and that he is absolutely that nerdy kid who got famous and is now running around acting like a total idiot. However, despite his relatively severe personality the flaws, the dude writes incredible music and plays the shit out of a guitar and I find both of those things extremely sexy. Consider it one of my personality flaws if you must.
Anyway. I drove down to Galveston Friday, where OSB and I got right back in a car and drove all the way to Clearlake to eat Panda Express for dinner. I don’t know why, just go with it. After dinner, we went to Target where I purchased this dress that I had seen a few days before and could not stop thinking about. I wasn’t gonna do it because I’m not spending money unnecessarily this month, but then OSB pointed out how perfect it would be for Vegas and I really didn’t need much convincing.
We spent the evening playing Super Mario Bros. on the Wii and shrieking at the television. We’re delightful.
Saturday we slept in, played some more SMB and then made a pretty successful attempt to recreate the Eggs Francisco from Kerbey Lane Cafe. By the time we’d cleaned up from that, it was time to start getting ready to head into Houston…we had a 3pm massage scheduled, plans for dinner with my Kickass College Roomie and then the concert.
The massage was awesome. I wish like hell I could afford them on a regular basis, but they are very low on the List of Things I Would Buy if I Wasn’t Always Broke. Dinner with KCR was also awesome, it was amazing to see her twice in three weeks (she was my date to the wedding I went to two weekends before) after not seeing her for almost a year and a half. Why do all of my girls live far away?
The concert was phenomenal. He has gotten MUCH better at putting on a show since we saw him last and he granted our mental request for “less talk, more singing.” The little bit of bantering he did between numbers was short and entertaining. He played “Comfortable,” which pretty much made my life, and he transitioned “Half of my Heart” into “Don’t Stop Believin’”…I’m not sure I’ve ever screamed so loud. I sound a little mannish today after much yelling and singing at the top of my lungs. Mission accomplished.
I drove back today in a lot of heavy rain and low visibility, so that was less than fun. CKB brought the latest Coen brothers movie, A Serious Man, over this afternoon and we were less than impressed. It was very well done, as always, but a little dark for our tastes on this particular day. Truthfully, CKB doesn’t seem to like any movie that doesn’t have a happy ending. I just could have done without the doom and gloom as I was struggling to stay upbeat after an excellent weekend with friends that are too far away.
In other news, I purchased Thesis and have begun tinkering, with my sights set on eventually building a personal/professional website in the vein of Jenn’s fabulous example. I’m midway through the tech writing course and I’m slowly exploring the world of freelance writing.
How was your weekend? How are things? How harshly are you judging me right now for my John Mayer obsession?

Not judging at all because I’m clearly just as guilty with my 2nd row seats last week haha. Also I’m jealous he did don’t stop believing! Funnnn. And let me know if you have thesis questions because I figured some cool shit out and also if you figure any cool shit out be sure to tell me!
Yay! Don’t Stop Believin was awesome, but we didn’t get Neon, so I’m jealous of that. I am just dipping my toes in with Thesis, but be sure I will be gchatting you like crazy when I finally get to dive in!
I’m not judging you harshly at all…I have the same obsession.
He makes me want to lick his guitar…among other things.
I don’t have to like him as a person to say he can play the shit out of a guitar. His music doesn’t particularly do anything, and since he’s also a GIANT DOUCHE, I don’t really listen to him. But I won’t deny that he is a phenomenal guitarist.
From you, I consider that full on approval.
Ha! Nope, not judging you at all.
Good luck on your portfolio website! I’d love to see it when you’re done =)
I will definitely post links!
Ditto on the portfolio links.
But he’s an underrated musician. Absolutely. So much talk about the commercial success and not enough about how he can actually play.
I agree. And the singles on his albums are always my least favorite songs from them…they’re still trying to make him pop, but he isn’t.
John Mayer…my opinion of you has begun to change.
I also listen to country music, what of it?
Ooh! Tell me about the tech writing course, pretty please? I’m thinking of trying one out, too, but I basically have no idea what it would entail. :)
